Standard specifications don’t work on historic buildings. Each building is an individual challenge, requiring materials specific to that project. A telltale sign of an inadequate restoration effort is mortar that doesn’t match the original stone. That’s why Cathedral Stone® Products has developed a system for matching masonry that is unparalleled in the industry.

This system, established in 1984 and improved for the last 23 years in the field and in the Cathedral Stone® Products laboratory, allows us to quickly and accurately match most masonry. There are sometimes color-match requests that are more difficult or simply cannot be obtained because of needing too much pigment, but generally you will receive samples within a few days. The color-matching process can also be used with our no-VOC MASONRE^® potassium silicate paints and our terra cotta glazing system.

In addition to Cathedral Stone’s custom color system, a standard color chart is available. The standard mortars are readily available for pick-up or quick shipping, and also form the basis for the Jahn Tinting Mortar System. The Tinting Mortar System was developed for on-site custom-color matching.
