Our Philosophy
Much of the maintenance and restoration of masonry buildings fail prematurely.
There are many reasons why: inappropriate materials, poor craftsmanship, or
perceived savings. There is a better method; for less money and without the
headaches.
When undertaking the important task of historic restoration or maintenance, it
is critical to take into consideration the total cost of ownership; comprising
material cost, labor cost and durability of the restoration, while not
contributing to further deterioration. Choosing inappropriate materials or
contractor in the interests of keeping costs down often leads to just the
opposite - higher total cost of ownership due to failure from either the
materials, the contractor, or both.
Cathedral Stone Products, Inc. is dedicated to providing the appropriate
materials to qualified and dedicated restoration professionals. Our materials
have been thoroughly evaluated and tested to ensure that they are truly
physically compatible with the structure to which they are being applied.
True compatibility means that the repairs will behave in the same manner as the
structure, in essence becoming one with the structure. The repairs will expand
and contract with the masonry, and will be breathable enough to allow water
vapor and liquid water to escape to the surface. Therefore, the repair will not
fail due to freeze/thaw cycles or salt re-crystallization.
Cathedral Stone Products introduced the first training program in the
restoration trade in 1989, and has trained thousands of craftspeople in the
proper application and finishing techniques of masonry restoration. As
important to a project as using appropriate materials is the use of a qualified
craftsman. Craftsmen should be dedicated and specifically trained in historic
restoration and maintenance - there is no compromise.
