Silinwerk in Germany (and still produced today) these liquid silicate paints routinely last 30 to 50 years. Silin paints can be used on any masonry that has pores, including interior and exterior plasters and stuccos, with a vast array of colors. Because the silicate goes into the pores, becoming part of the masonry, it will never peel. Acrylic, oil and latex paints are surface coatings, which do not bond with the pores. They are not breathable enough to allow water vapor to escape quickly enough to prevent failure. This condition causes premature failure of the coating, and accelerated deterioration of the substrate due to freeze/thaw damage. Silin paints are natural, colorfast, maintain the breathability of the masonry, repel moisture, and impede corrosion.
